Town Branch Creek is a beautiful, clear, spring-fed stream located in the heart of Tahlequah, OK. The 6.21-mile long creek is more than just water flowing through town; it is the focal point of several city parks and provides a welcoming feature for Northeastern State University.
Friends of Town Branch Creek's mission is to preserve the unique biology and aesthetic value of Tahlequah's Town Branch Creek watershed through public outreach and involvement.
Protection of Town Branch Creek, a tributary of the Illinois River, is important for conserving downstream water quality in the greater Illinois River watershed. According to the 2016 Environmental Protection Agency 303(d) list of impaired waters, Town Branch Creek is impaired by Escherichia coli (E. coli), which may pose health risks to people fishing and swimming in the stream.
